Annular Solar Eclipse

This event proved to be difficult to reach because of the COVID-19 pandemic and most observers were forced to watch the partial eclipse. Weather was not particularly helpful.

GOES 16 false-colour view of the eclipse shadow at 1000 UTC. The centre of the shadow is over Northwestern Ontario, north of Lake Superior, at this time but is not visible because of the poor sensitivity of the satellite visible-light sensors and the low light levels of early sunrise. Instead, the shadow of the partial phases of the eclipse are seen as the brownish smear across the top right of the image.
