Eclipse Posters

Eclipse posters are magnificent memorials to past expeditions, though they tend to take up a large amount of wall space once you’ve accumulated more than a couple. The samples on these pages were gathered on many trips over the years or provided by friends. Some are rare – the India poster is one of only two printed; the Mongolia “poster” is actually made up of the bus permit and eclipse passes we displayed – others were ubiquitous at the eclipse site, promoting observing or safety.

Acquiring posters often takes a little imagination: peel them from walls; negotiate with shopkeepers; buy them from owners or tourist offices; trade them for other souvenirs; have your friends pick them up for you; or even engage in a little larceny. Getting them home safely is also a challenge, but sliding them inside hollow tripod legs works well.
